Vortrag – The Untold Story of Artsakh

First came the invasion of Artsakh in 2020, with Azerbaijan dropping bombs on Armenians' homes for 44 days. Then came Azerbaijan shutting off the flow of gas to Armenians' homes from Armenia to the region during below-freezing temperatures in the coldest winter months. Then Azerbaijan imposed a 9 month-long blockade of Armenians in Artsakh, cutting off access to food and medicine from the outside world. Then ultimately a no-holds barred bombing and siege campaign by Azerbaijan which resulted in the ethnic cleansing of 120,000 Armenians from their homeland in Artsakh.

Situated at the crossroads of multiple empires and host to a handful of foreign invasions over the years, the region Artsakh is now, as of this year, the first time without its indigenous Armenian inhabitants since time immemorial. With all the liberal international institutions that have been created to avert a catastrophe like this, it begs the question : “how could this be allowed to happen?”

This talk will focus on the role historical revisionism, energy politics, the disinterest of the international press and the complicity of the international community each have played in enabling Azerbaijan's ethnic cleansing of Armenians from their homeland Artsakh
